This research is an experimental study on the fuel spray characteristics of the liquid phase injection for a spark ignition LPG engine with multi-point fuel injection. The aerodynamic influences on the spray structure and mixing characteristics of the transient injection were especially investigated. The experiments were carried out in a steady air stream of the wind tunnel to simulate the various airflow conditions injection pressure was varied from 1.5MPa to 2.5MPa. The optical measurement techniques of Mie scattering images and Shadowgraph image were applied in order to investigate the spray structure of LPG fuel injected in the liquid phase injection. The shape and size of liquid droplets was also investigated by the microscopic visualization. Liquid phase and vapor phase of the sprayed fuel distinguished by the image of Mie scattering and shadowgraph. The effects of the airflow velocity on the spray structure were not appeared at the beginning stage but became increased with the elapsed time. The effects of the injection pressure and airflow velocity on the spray penetration were also significant at the end stage of injection.
